Secure Communication Networks with Tor and XMPP
Control over your communication infrastructure matters just as much as the encryption protecting your messages.
Privacy is an increasingly important need for individuals, teams and organizations. Conventional messaging platforms may offer a range of security features, yet control over the underlying infrastructure usually remains with a centralized service provider.
We build private communication networks that give you an alternative: self-hosted infrastructure, end-to-end encryption and integration with Tor.
In projects delivered for our clients, we have combined the open XMPP protocol with advanced encryption technologies and privacy-focused server configurations to create secure communication infrastructure.
A Layered Approach to Privacy and Security
Secure communication involves more than encrypting message content. How connections are established, where traffic is routed and how servers are managed also affect privacy.
Our solutions combine complementary layers of protection instead of relying on a single technology. We aim to protect communication content while reducing the ability to trace users and servers across the network.
Privacy-Focused Communication over Tor
We integrate communication infrastructure with the Tor network and configure connection methods designed to reduce the risk of exposing users' real IP addresses.
XMPP services made available through Tor onion services can conceal a server's actual network location and route communication traffic within the Tor network.
This approach offers practical advantages for projects with demanding requirements for anonymous communication, network privacy and protection against digital surveillance.
End-to-End Encryption with OMEMO and OpenPGP
We do not leave the confidentiality of your messages to server security alone.
Using compatible XMPP clients that support OMEMO or OpenPGP, we configure environments where end-to-end encryption is applied on users' devices. Messages are encrypted on the sender's device and decrypted on the recipient's device.
This means message content does not need to be processed by the server as readable plaintext during transmission.
Access to a server does not, by itself, provide access to message content protected by correctly implemented end-to-end encryption.
Communication confidentiality therefore rests on encryption keys under users' control as well as the security of the infrastructure.
Self-Hosted, Independent Communication Infrastructure
We configure communication networks on servers owned or controlled by our clients.
This gives organizations greater control over their infrastructure, from user accounts to server configuration.
Self-hosted XMPP server solutions reduce dependence on third-party messaging platforms and make it possible to build independent systems that can be customized, managed and adapted to long-term requirements.
Protection Beyond Server Security
A compromised server can create serious risks for communication infrastructure. Physical access, unauthorized administrative actions and cyberattacks all need to be considered.
We assess these risks when designing the architecture and combine end-to-end encryption, secure server configuration and Tor-based connections.
Our aim is to create a communication environment that is more resilient to different threats and does not rely on the security of a single component.
This layered architecture helps protect message content and makes it harder to determine the network locations of users or servers.
Secure Communication That Fits Everyday Use
Advanced security technology does not have to make communication difficult.
Our XMPP infrastructure can be designed to work with compatible desktop and mobile clients while preserving a familiar day-to-day messaging experience. Users can benefit from the configured environment without having to manage its technical details.
We can develop configurations for a range of needs, from small groups of individuals to private workgroups.
Tailored Solutions for Projects That Prioritize Privacy
Every communication network has its own security expectations, use cases and infrastructure requirements.
We plan custom XMPP server deployments, Tor integrations and end-to-end encrypted communication systems around each client's needs.
Our completed projects demonstrate how independent, privacy-focused communication infrastructure can be put into practice in real-world settings.
If you want to reduce dependence on centralized messaging services, prioritize communication privacy and retain control over your infrastructure, we can develop a secure communication solution for your project.
